Severed Tongues Speak

1.
we’re debased by our own silence it’s a new form of violence we’re choking on our good manners our cappuccinos, daily planners we pretend to look away yeah, the kids might be okay we’re not just playing dumb open wide, cut out our tongues unspeak the language, unlearn the words your voice isn’t anything like you’ve heard welcome to the new compliance you’ve donated your mind to science each new form of resistance is its own start-up business our history isn’t on the level it’s a pinhead danced on by a thousand devils i don’t dare follow the thread from the nightly news to our daily bread unspeak the language, unlearn the words your voice isn’t anything like you’ve heard

it’s a story older than the streets it’s a loop on re-fucking-peat it’s the boot and it’s the cleat still it surprises me the world won’t listen -- to me it’s a bitch and it’s a moan it’s the message on your phone change the words, never the tone roll my eyes, stifle a groan the world won’t listen -- to you it’s a way to shut us up sabotage they call bad luck tell me when you’ve had enough pour out this bitter cup the world won’t listen -- to us Every Word We Swallow Is Another Year

Dekadenz 03:31
We’ve moved to Berlin to pick up some different sins to star in another film the sequel to our downfall A new career, another town Europe is our playground the lost, never the found the people that we’ve come for Swing with me from sagging chandeliers into these declining years Don’t forget who you were or to gag the chauffeur a loaded revolver is how we start this party Take off your pants, don’t be absurd we could always use a third hope’s not a dirty word with enough lubrication Swing with me from sagging chandeliers into these declining years When you fall slowly enough, it’s called Levitation

about

In the dark days of the pandemic, we had no drummer + no place to rehearse. Reinvention was the only option. We threw away our usual tools + started from scratch.

These short sharp songs suggest different ways to navigate our dark days.

“Language Lessons” is an electro rocker about how “every new form of resistance is its own start-up business.”

“The World Won’t Listen” talks back to hopelessness over a clattering groove, booming bass interludes + cut-up trumpet licks.

“Dekadenz” offers the luxurious temptation of giving up. We don’t approve, but we get it. This glam ballad nods to Berlin in the 1930s + ‘70s.
